ENGIE confirms its position as the number one solar and wind power company in France with the acquisition of the LANGA group
ENGIE, the leading company in the French wind and solar power market, has consolidated its position on both technologies with today’s acquisition of the LANGA group1.
Founded in 2008, the LANGA group, based in Brittany in France, is one of the most dynamic independent renewable energy producers, currently working on solar, wind, biogas, and biomass projects.
LANGA is involved along the entire value chain of its projects. It has an active operations portfolio that should total an installed capacity of 215 MW, including 165 MW of solar energy and 39 MW of wind power, by the end of 2018. The group is also developing 1.3 GW of projects that will emerge by 2022. The LANGA group demonstrated its competitiveness during the latest CRE2 solar power invitations to tender, when it finished 3rd, with ENGIE in first place.
In addition to its strong organic growth, this acquisition will enable ENGIE to intensify its development in renewable energies in France. ENGIE is in fact aiming to develop nearly 3 GW of wind power and nearly 2.2 GW of solar power by 2021.
Gwenaelle Huet, ENGIE France Renewables BU CEO, said: “ENGIE and LANGA are among France’s solar development leaders. The alliance between the two Groups, and particularly LANGA’s teams’ specific skills in terms of roofs and ground-level power stations, as well as the global portfolio of projects in development, will make ENGIE a major leader in France. So it’s with great pride that we welcome LANGA’s staff to join ENGIE.”
Gilles Lebreux, LANGA Group Founder, Chairman and CEO, said: “The clarity and determination demonstrated in the takeover bid as well as ENGIE’s business plan were key factors in the group’s shareholders deciding to propel LANGA into the future. Over the course of time, the management team successfully positioned it as a full-fledged contributor to the development of renewable energy in France and particularly in 2017 by successfully bidding on the invitations to tender launched by the CRE2. The partnership with TERRE ET LAC and the support of ASTRIS FINANCE, as financial consultant, were central to both the development of the LANGA group and making this merger work.” This acquisition follows in the footsteps of recent consolidations3 of ENGIE’s positions within ENGIE Green France, which made it a key company in the French renewable energy market.
