A Terre et Lac team was selected to take part in the renewable energies world cycling championship organised on 15 and 16 June 2018 in Occitanie, the leading energy-plus region.
The championship’s launch party was held on Friday 15 June at Château Montplaisir in Narbonne

During this evening event, the numbers and jerseys were handed out to the 40 teams, featuring more than 300 cyclists and 30 different nationalities. The organisers opened proceedings with enthusiastic welcome speeches.
The starting signal was given in Rieux-Minervois!
All the cyclists were called individually and set off at regular intervals along this rolling 10 km course – to be covered 6 times by the favourites – in the heart of the Occitanie countryside, complete with its many vineyards. The Terre et Lac team, made up of non-license-holding amateurs for this world championship, accompanied by its many supporters, put up a creditable performance, finishing in the top half of the ranking.
Damien Vacalus, TERRE ET LAC team cyclist, tells us about it:

“I found the course more demanding than the last championship in Julienas. The short slopes broke up the packs, and the strong wind made it very difficult for them to reform. I took part in the first championship and the race and the atmosphere made me want to come back for more, particularly as I didn’t know the Rieux-Minervois region: there’s no better way to get to know an area and its landscapes! I’m looking forward to next year’s event in Alsace to keep sporting and defending the colours of “renewable energies”!
Cycling and renewable energy, common values

Wind, sun and rain… are common to both of the passions of these riders, who are often exposed to somewhat harsh weather conditions. Common values of team spirit, teamwork, tenacity, togetherness and professionalism were recurring themes in our chats and discussions.
See you next year in Haguenau on 15 June 2019. On your marks…!
